DEADPOOL Official Trailer: “I’m Touching Myself Tonight”

deadpoolmovie.fbu

I don’t need to say anymore. Click on the link and see for yourself. I just hope for the sake of this film and all things Marvel that Ryan Reynolds doesn’t fuck this one up too (see Green Lantern. Actually don’t. I still want my money and time wasted out of my life back from that one.). I actually like the X-Men Origins: Wolverine version of Wade Wilson. Not their “Dead Pool“. He could’ve been pretty badass, but they went a little too far with their imagination and well, fucked that up.

Seeing as how this movie has been in the making for six years if not longer, 20th Century Fox has had plenty of time to get this thing right. From what I’ve seen from this trailer, the (un)official San Diego Comic-Con trailer, and the leaked footage also from SDCC, there may be some overkill with the violence (which wouldn’t be DEADPOOL without it), will be a decent movie. Ok, it’s going to be pretty epic. Please Fox, do not fuck this up.

Marvel Has It’s Spider-Man

tomhollandspidermanTom Holland. Yeah. That kid.

As reported earlier via Marvel.com , Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios have finally found what they thought was an actor to play Spider-Man in the upcoming film franchise 3 months ago in Asa Butterfield Monday in this British kid Holland.

In one of the greatest moves probably in cinematic history, definitely in the superhero genre, Marvel and Sony basically married with the ultimate prenuptial agreement with both companies sharing claim to the Spider-Man franchise going forward. In the last 15 years there have been five total big screen adaptations of the web slinger, garnering mixed reviews, most being positive. The latest incarnation of Spider-Man is set to make his first official appearance in the already highly anticipated Captain America: Civil War, or appropriately nick-named Avengers 2.5. From what’s being said about the this film, there will be a lot of new faces introduced into Marvel’s Cinematic Universe, some of them NOT being original Avengers.

I’ll be completely honest. I have no idea who this kid is or what movies he’s been in. Apparently he’s in the film In the Heart of the Sea starring now fellow Marvel alum Chris Hemsworth, as he was also in the BBC Two 6 part series Wolf Hall and the based on a true story film The Impossible, starring Ewan Macgregor and Naomi Watts, but from the pictures I’ve seen he looks more like a young Peter Parker than the Ender’s Game actor. Sometimes you just have to have the look of a character and this kid does. If I were casting a Peter Parker for a Spider-Man film I’d probably look for this kid. Hopefully this will be his coming out party.

Marvel’s Spider-Man is scheduled to release July 28, 2017. Countdown begins now.

Marvel In Talks With Beyonce’ About Role In Their Cinematic Universe

As many of you probably know by now, music icon and reigning queen of R&B singer Beyonce’ is in talks to play a beyonce.fbucharacter in Marvel Entertainment’s ever growing cinematic universe. Marvel’s got so many “Phases” I can’t keep up but with the upcoming movies and television series, they’re going to need all the star power they can get because ten moves in five years is a lot of movies, not to mention Marvel’s Netflix series Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, and The Defenders AND season 2 of Agent Carter and season 3 of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. basically all tying together. There hasn’t been any report of which movie or series she’ll be seen in or which character she’ll play, but there has been a TON of speculation to the “Who, What, Where, and When”. The “Why” is already been answered. It’s Beyonce’. Why not?

And here, there’s no difference. We’ve pondered and been in deep thought as to which character(s) she will play and which character(s) she SHOULD play. There have been a few generic, mainstream-esque answers to the question, but there are a few characters on Marvel’s roster that should get some consideration for the upcoming movies set to come out. Sure, most comic book super Fanboys (and girls) and geeks will know as soon as her story name will be mentioned, but the average movie goers can be introduced to some pretty grounded characters with deep-roots in the MU that deserve some screen time.

Without further a-do, here are a few characters we think should get some mention for Beyonce’ and which movies they may end up in and in no particular order:

Medusa – Marvel’s Inhumans (2019)

From what I’ve read and been told, the synopsis for the Inhumans movie is they get mad so they decide to blow shit up. I completely made that up. No one knows the actual synopsis outside of it’s going to be the reason Black Bolt becomes a household name. Again, I completely made that up. But if the Queen B portrays the Inhuman queen in the movie, they’ll both be household names and more.

Medusalith Amaquelin, better known as Medusa, is the queen of the a race of beings known as Inhumans. With The Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver being introduced as Inhumans in Avengers: Age of Ultron the medusa.fbuterm has already been introduced (the term Inhuman was also mentioned on Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. during the latter part of season two. If you haven’t see it yet shame on you). There’s a ton of backstory involving her, but what it will mean to the MCU we won’t know until the movie(s) come out. Powered with a skill set that is on par with Captain America, Medusa’s main asset, much like her mythological counterpart, is her hair. Medusa possesses psychokinetic manipulation that allows her to lift up to 1 TON and through her psychokinesis she can make her hair do amazing things. Even shuffle a deck of cards ( stole that one so what).

Medusa’s biggest claim to fame has been the better half of the King of the Inhumans, but she has also had many adventures involving the Fantastic Four.

Madame Web – Marvel’s Spider-Man (2017)

madamweb.fbuI’ll be honest. This movie has been a long time coming. Well, a Marvel Entertainment version has been anyway. This may be the most anticipated Marvel movie of all-time, because it’s coming FROM Marvel. No one knows how this movie is going to play into the current MCU, but I can tell you right now it will be pivotal. I believe that one unexpected angle that could be thrown in there is with Madame Web. Every hero needs it’s own version of Madame Web, even if it’s just to give them some kind of useful, riddle-laden, information that could lead you on the right path….. or be yours and the world’s demise. Or interesting conversation if nothing else.

Julia Carpenter is the second incarnation of Madame Web. Tricked into being apart of an experiment that gave her powers similar to Spider-Man, Julia was given the persona Spider-Woman, though she worked mainly on the West Coast. After being captured by the family of Kraven the Hunter, Julia was imprisoned with the original, but dying due to her injuries Madame Web. In her final act, she transferred her powers to Julia, causing her to become the new Madam web, but costing her physical eyesight in the process.

As Madame Web, Julia can see all the threads on the “Web of Life” and can be a voice of reason or a “physical conscious” for Peter to guide him morally in the right direction as Spider-Man. What teenage boy wouldn’t listen to Beyonce’ as a voice of reason and guidance?

White Tiger – Marvel’s Black Panther (2018) / Jessica Jones (2015)

avaayla.fbuWhile there’s no official synopsis of this movie yet, there has been speculation that this movie will involve T’Challa becoming Black Panther and King of the mystical land of Wakanda through his father’s brutal murder. On top of that, what we know officially about White Tiger is that she has no affiliation with Black Panther. But, you could always add a strong female character in a movie like this one.

Ava Ayala gets her power from a family amulet called the Amulet of Power and gives her the ability to become White Tiger. She has heighten levels in speed, strength, stamina, balance, agility, dexterity, endurance. coordination, and superhuman martial arts skills. She also has razor sharp claws. While she has no affiliation with Black Panther, she does have a connection with Luke Cage, Jessica Jones‘ husband through the Mighty Avengers street level initiative. Until the world ended in Secret Wars.

Captain Marvel – Marvel’s Captain Marvel (2018)

captainmarvel.fbuCarol Danvers is a strong female character within the Marvel Universe, and this role is not one to take lightly in my opinion. Involuntarily bestowed with the powers while being held hostage by the Kree Empire. While taking on the moniker Ms. Marvel, Carol proved through numerous battles alongside various Marvel team ups with the likes of the Avengers and Spider-Man that she was more than just a sidekick-type hero. During a battle with the Absorbing Man, Captain America gave called her Captain Marvel because of her leadership and the fact that he knew she would carry on the name of her predecessor Mar-Vell, the original Captain Marvel, without disappointment.

Captain Marvel possesses superhuman strength, speed, agility, reflexes, and the ability of flight. I’ll be honest, whoever plays her in a movie fans will love her. She very well could be the most relatable character in the Marvel Universe and I’m sure she’ll make an appearance in at least four of the upcoming movies.

Who do you think Beyonce’ should be in the MCU? Who should she play? Comment below and tell me your take.

Amazing Spider-Man 2 Movie Review

image

One of the hardest things in life is to give perspective,  and in reference to the movie The Amazing Spider-Man 2 it can be one of the easiest because I am a HUGE Spidey fan, but I’ll be fair. Needless to say, the movie was (expletive) awesome.

Disclaimer – This review does contain spoilers so if you haven’t seen the movie yet do not read any further and go see the movie. Right. Now.

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 did not disappoint.  Andrew Garfield was sensational as Peter Parker and Spider-Man bringing a realism to Peter and a realization to Spider-Man.  As the web slinger, he brought more of the trademark one-liners and playful nature Fanboys (and girls) that read the comics are use to. Spider-Man also was shown supporting the anti – bullying campaign by helping a young boy being bullied by some neighborhood punks. Peter, on the other hand, while having his success as Spider-Man was having some trouble living with the haunting of breaking a promise that was made by the dying Captain Stacy played by Dennis Leary. Every time he feels he puts his girlfriend Gwen Stacy, played by Emma Stone, he sees visions of the dead police Captain which is obviously his guilty conscious getting the better of him.

The villains in the movie were great choices for the movie,  but unfortunately their story lines were one of the facets of the movie that I didn’t like. There was so much potential to expound upon with each one of them that their build up was a little rushed. I understand that if there was just one main villain the movie may have drug out a little too long or would have over saturated the overall product, so I get having as many villains as it had. But with the way the movie ended, it left the film a little incomplete (but going into the third and final one with Garfield as Spider-Man it kind of fits).

Jamie Foxx as Electro

Jamie Foxx was actually really good as Max Dillon, but a little over dramatic as Electro. I don’t necessarily believe it was his acting, but more of the writing.

image

Dane DeHaan as the Green Goblin

Harry Osborn, played by Dane DeHaan, was great as the scorned kid who wanted nothing more than to make his father proud but hating him during the process because he took his childhood away from him (if that wasn’t a mouthful), but was lethal in his attitude from the moment he appeared on screen. He should have just held up a sign that said “I’m the Green Goblin” in big green letters on a pear white poster board nailed to a wooden post. If the makers of this film plan on reintroducing the goblin in the next film, they may want to change his laugh.  Kid had the attitude for the goblin on point. The laugh on the other hand……needs a little work and by a little, I mean a lot.  Sounded more playful fifth grade girl-ish than meniacle.

As far as the Rhino, played by Paul Giamatti, all we can say is this sentence got more screen time. Played a great common crook but really had no relevance to the film outside of “just to have the Rhino in the movie”. Maybe he’ll make an appearance in the next one, maybe not. No one will care either way.  Seriously.

The Rhino

As many of you already knew going into the film that Gwen Stacy was probably going to die because that’s how the story goes. And even though she does die, you could tell throughout the movie that she was going to die.  The emphasis on Gwen and Peter taking different paths and her leaving to go to Oxford,  just gave off the vibe that she wasn’t going to make it.  What made this movie good movie was the character relationship between the two throughout the

movie and even after her death. Peter still demonstrated how deep his love was for Gwen, taking a hiatus from being Spider-Man, showing how much that part of his life really meant nothing to him without her in it. Showing Peter at her grave during what was a five month period added a lot of depth to his feelings for her.

All in all The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is a great watch. Action packed, but just a good movie period. Definitely the movie you want to go see more than once before it leaves theaters. Already can’t wait for the blu-ray release.

Man Of Steel Has Its Batman: Ben Affleck

I know……..I know. Well actually I DON’T know.

The upcoming sequel to the hit movie Man Of Steel will in fact feature Batman is slated to hit theaters in 2015 and has everyone on their heels and at the edge of their seats with anticipation, waiting on what is to be one of the greatest super hero team up movies in history. No matter what movie came before it or what movie comes after, a movie featuring two of the most iconic figures in history, not just comics, but in all of history……..there’s almost not a screen big enough to hold that much awesomeness. I could only imagine what it felt like in Hall H at the San Diego Convention Center during Comic-Con when the Batman-Superman logo came onto the screen. Crowd roaring. People literally losing their minds then with anticipation. Coming off a not too surprising showing in theaters with Man Of Steel, the only thing that hasn’t been done is this.

8_23_2013 5_23_16 AM_jpg

Then Warner Bros. went and killed any hope of anticipation for the movie when they decided to give the iconic role of Batman to Ben Affleck. When this was announced it was received the same way. Crowds roaring. People literally losing their minds. Not with anticipation, but with disbelief mixed in with about an ounce if irritation, and a little bit of rage.

Obviously director Zack Snyder didn’t see Daredevil.

Don’t get me wrong, Ben Affleck is a good actor. He’s been apart of some great movies. He’s a good writer. One thing he’s not……Bruce Wayne.

I don’t want to go into the Daredevil movie because I don’t want to demean him or the movie, but I will say it could have been a lot better, which is a good reason I’d like to see a reboot of the movie made with someone that would do Matt Murdock some justice. But this……this monstrocity of a casting, feels a lot like George Clooney’s version of Batman, instead of going with a more modern, less cartoon-ish Batman, like Chris Nolen’s version portrayed by Christian Bale.

In the 90’s versions of Batman, post Michael Keaton, the movies were saved by soft rock bands versions of title songs and actors who were “hot” (meaning actors who were at the time being sought after for EVERY movie) at the time and focused more on selling merchandise than actually selling the movie.I believe more money was made off soundtrack sales than actually ticket sales. I hate to admit it, but this whole Affleck being Batman thing has that same kind of feel to it. The worst part is, he isn’t marketable as the Bat. No one and I mean no one looks at him and thinks “Oh he’d be perfect as Bruce Wayne”. Not only that, but his last super hero performance help generate the equally bad movie Elektra as a spin off from Daredevil, and ruin any chance of her returning as a character in a super hero film (even though I believe Jennifer Garner would have made a decent Jean Grey in the X-Men trilogy).

Maybe I’m wrong about this. Hopefully I am. I was wrong about Henry Cavill when I heard he was going to play Superman. I believe the recreated origin story saved that movie and I’m sure there will be hours of footage an extra scenes that were left out of the movie available when the Blu Ray/DVD/3D/Ultraviolet/Digital Copy/Digital Comic and whatever else that comes with it upon its release. But I’m crossing my fingers that Warner Bros. and director Zack Snyder knows what they’re doing and that with Ben Affleck, they won’t f___ this up.
